Your Checklist For Choosing A Video Production Partner

Your checklist for choosing a video production partner

We’re only a couple of weeks into the New Year and it’s great to see how many enquiries we’re receiving from businesses looking to incorporate videos into their 2017 planning. Of course, with the rise of video in recent years, video production is an incredibly competitive field.

Some of the feedback from our clients about their discussions with a video production agency, has motivated our team to put together what we’re calling your complete checklist for choosing a video production partner. Why? While we may have been in the industry for almost two decades now, we continue to be incredibly passionate about where video is heading.

As with anything in business, it always helps to have some pointers before heading into a discussion with any video production agency (including us). So we’ve put together our top tips for you right here.

1. Ask to see a demo reel but keep in mind it’s not everything

Any serious video production agency should be able to show you their demo reel and this is often a great starting point. Just keep in mind that demo reels won’t show you a video in its entirety, how it catered to the client’s original brief and ultimately, what results it helped the client to achieve. A good tip is to jot down any companies you see in the demo reel and go on a bit of a hunt online to see a complete version of the video.

2. Look for recent projects

When you visit a video production agency’s social channels, you’re likely to see their most recent work. This gives you a really clear indication of the current work that they’re producing and what they’ll be able to bring to your creative project. Like any creative field, staff turnover can be quite high so you need to get an accurate grasp on the team you’ll be working with in order to create you video.

3. Go with your gut instincts

How many times have you ‘had a hunch’ that pointed you in the right direction? When you have a meeting with any video production agency, you’ll meet their people, see their work, get an idea about their culture and so on. This is your opportunity to gauge whether they have fresh and creative ideas that are in-line with what you’re seeking for your video. Skype chats can be great but it’s always ideal to meet anyone you’re looking to do business with in person or at the very least, chat to them over the phone. You’ll be able to pick up so many priceless things that’ll arm you with the info you need to trust your gut instinct.

4. Ask yourself this: do they really care about my company?

When a video production agency is genuinely interested in what you do and what you’re looking to create and your end goals, it speaks volumes. You should never be ‘just another lead’. At the end of the day, you need to team up with a video production agency that is just as passionate about your vision as you are. You want them to be invested in making your video a success, not just about sending through their invoice.

5. Do you own research

We’re living in an age where online reviews and testimonials are a quick internet search away. Website and Facebook pages are both good places to start. Don’t be too afraid to reach out to a video production agency’s past customers to ask them for their thoughts (both good and bad). This might just save you a whole heap of trouble later on.
Finding the perfect team to work with you on your video is essential to its success. Don’t ignore the warning signs and always try to go with a company that has a good track record and has been in the industry a while (like us!). Remember: if you have ‘a feeling’ about something, it’s usually present for a reason.
